The Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Region (CANR) will conduct Exercise Fabric Virgo this week in southwestern British Columbia in support of preparations for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The exercise, which will be conducted in the areas of Vancouver and Vancouver Island from September 15-16, will involve Canadian Forces CF-18 fighters and other aircraft flying at low altitudes. Residents in the exercise area may hear aircraft noise and perhaps see aircraft flying at various times throughout the day. The training will involve the fighters escorting or flying with civilian-looking aircraft, but this is part of the exercise.

Cerescorp has issued the following security notice for the cruise ship terminals in Vancouver, BC:

During the 2008 Cruise Ship Season, Transport Canada temporarily allowed for people without a Transport Security Clearance (TSC), to be ‘escorted’ by security personnel into the Restricted 2 areas (R2s).  Since this time, Transport Canada has advised that this exception will not be continued any longer and that the TSC requirement will be enforced and must be strictly adhered to.

For Ballantyne Pier and Canada Place, all vendors/contractors/ drivers/service persons eligible to apply for a TSC and needing access to the dock, the data and light control rooms, electrical rooms, the security control room or the vessel are required to have a port pass with a TSC.

Persons without valid security credentials (Port pass with TSC) will be turned away and no exceptions will be made!

DO NOT DELAY … apply for your TSC IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!

The following document is intended to assist persons that service the cruise ships and/or provide services at the cruise ship terminals in the application process for obtaining a Port Pass and/or a Marine Transportation Security Clearance and who the appropriate issuing agency is.

Collection of Alien Biometric Data upon Exit
from the United States at Air and Sea Points of Departure; US-VISIT Program

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced today a notice of proposed rulemaking that will establish biometric exit procedures at all U.S air and sea ports of departure. The majority of the Canadians are already required to submit digital fingerprints and a digital photograph for admission into the country.*  The US-VISIT Exit proposal would require non-U.S. citizens who provide biometric identifiers for admission to also provide digital fingerprints when departing the country from any air or sea ports of departure.
